INTRODUCTION TO THE WAY OF BANI ALAWI 1 http://www.banialawi.com
Calling the people to their Lord is the function of God's Messengers, the Prophets, may God's blessings and peace be upon them, and of their scholarly heirs, those capable of receiving the Prophetic heritage of knowledge and disseminating it among the people, thereby leading them along the path to salvation and the good pleasure of their Lord. “Scholars are heirs to the Prophets,” says the hadith . The full heritage includes the outward knowledge of sharia and the inward knowledge which illuminates the hearts and put them in direct contact with the higher worlds. The Prophets, may God's blessings and peace be upon him, indicated in unequivocle terms that this knowledge in its intergrity would remain entrusted to his descedants, Ahl al-Bayt . A hadith authenticated by Muslim, Tirimidhi and others, states: “ I leave among you two weighty things, the first is the Book of God which contains guidance and light and (the second) the people of my house...”
Among the most illustracious of Ahl al-Bayt are the 'Alawi sayyids of Hadramawt. Their ancestor, Imam Ahmad ibn' Isa known as the “Emigrant”, abandoned the land of Iraq, troubled by sedition and unrest, for Hadramawt. Of his descendants only those of one of his grandsons, Imam “Alawi, survive to this day and are still called after him. Their presence in Hadramawt transformed it from a land ruled by the heretic Khawarij to one ruled by the orthodox sunni of Imam Ash'ari as concerns beliefs and that of Imam Shafi'i in legal matters. They soon produced countless scholarly saints who strove to spread the Book of God and maintain the purity of the prophetic sunnah through the vicissitudes of changing times. They travelled East as far as the Philipines being the main teachers of Islam in Malaya and Indonesia, and West to East Africa where their influence is still very much in evidence.
Leading Alawis were originally given the title “Imam”, this was later changed into “shaykh”, then by the time of Imam Abdallah al-Haddad in the eleventh century H., into “ Habib ”, which is one of the attributes of their ancestor, the Prophet, may God's blessings and peace be upon him, the literal meaning of which is “beloved” Kwowledge of Islam must be supported by unbroken chains of transmission to the the Prophet, may God's blessings and peace be upon him. Those who receive one or more sciences or part thereof from a master and are considered by him worthy, receive the ijaza , the authorisation to transmit it, in their turn, to others.

BANI ALAWI
IT'S ROOT AND THE GOLDEN CHAIN
The warning not to rely on genealogical laurel
Once, Rasullulah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم paid a visit at the home of Saiditinah Fatimah الزهراء , رضي الله عنها , and beside her was Saiditinah Sofiyyah, his auntie رضي الله عنها, . Rasullulah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم pronounced “ Oh Bani (descendant) Abdi Manaf, Oh Bani Abdi Mutal'lib, Of Fatimah binti Muhammad, Oh Sofiyyah, auntie of Rasullulah, redeem yourself from Allah, there is nothing of affluence in front of Allah, so ask from me whatever is in my possession, but remember, on the Day of Judgement, the foremost among mankind are those with devotedness and piousness. You would come merely to assert your family tie while others came with full of righteous deeds and in contrast you only brought your strangulated world. When you exclaim “Oh Muhammad”, I would turn my face away from you. You would then further exclaim, “Oh Muhammad, I am so and so” and I would answer “with regards to your lineage, I am fully aware but on your deed, I do not have the slightest notion. You abandoned the Al Quran and that is the reason you lay claim on your ancestry between you and I.
